We need landlords and the private rental sector. By reducing incentive, you run the risk of reduced supply when there’s already not enough. Also, considering a lot of social housing is supplied through private landlords, where are the people who can’t afford a deposit going to stay? I agree that rents in some areas are ridiculous but when you look at the yield on these properties, you start to understand why it is the way it is.
